Welcome to the Exploring London and Beyond website. Have you ever passed an interesting building, a sculpture or a London anachronism and wondered what it’s for and why it’s there? If so Exploring London and Beyond is for you. Below is an outline of what we do and what we are about. We hope that you will then feel inspired to join us.
Exploring London and Beyond is your chance to get to know London landmarks we all pass but never really see. It is also an opportunity to experience places such as the Francis Crick centre that you may have heard or read about, and wondered what they are really like. We are a friendly group of people of all ages who enjoy days out with friends. This is what makes us different, and is the reason why most people who join us are still coming 15 years later. Most weeks we do a guided walk, or sometimes have a pre-arranged visit, often to places that are not regularly open to the public
We also include some zoom lectures, which are detailed on the ‘this term’ page. More normally we meet at an Underground, or railway, station in or around Greater London. Walks and visits take place whatever the weather (so come prepared!), over the two hours we usually walk between one and two miles.
Times & Duration: Each week during term time the walks or visits take place on:
- Tuesday afternoons: 2 pm – 4 pm
- Wednesday afternoons: 2 pm – 4 pm
Each group usually does the same walk or visit, although occasionally places we visit cannot accommodate all three groups in one week. If this is the case, arrangements will be explained clearly in the course programme to ensure everyone gets the opportunity to visit the chosen venue. On the following pages you can read about what we do in more detail, view this term’s programme, and complete the booking from if you wish to come and join us.
