Another Face of Castile: Aranjuez and Cuenca: Wednesday 6th October til Monday 11th October 2021
Aranjuez was the holiday residence of Spanish kings and Cuenca is famous for its hanging houses.
On this trip we will see lavish palaces and luxuriant gardens, contrasted with dramatic rugged countryside in which weird modern art museums.have now been established in former caves.
- Aranjuez: the Summer palace of the Spanish monarchs in the eighteenth century, their attempt to create a Versailles in Spain
- Chinchon: A classic Castillan picture postcard town, the home of Anis, the Spanish version of pastis.
- Cuenca a town with an extrordinary location enclosed on three sides by two rivers. It is known for its balconied houses hanging over clifftops, some of them now converted into art museums.
- Enchanted City (Cuidad Encantada) A bizarre series of natural limestone outcrops sculpted by natural erosion that take the form of weird shapes
We will fly to and from Gatwick.
£840 per person. This includes the flights, accomodation and most travel in Spain. We will stay in 3 star or above hotels, Cost does not include lunch or dinner, travel to the airport in England or museum or other entrance charges in Spain. If you would like to share a room, cost will be less.
